Workshop 1

Authentic Movement – a Moving Meditation for Wellness from the Inside Out

Authentic Movement – a Moving Meditation for Wellness from the Inside Out

Time: 11-1pm
Venue: QL2 Dance Studio
Workshop Leader: Sandra Kay Lauffenburger
Workshop description:
Although we can see that ageing means having change right in your face, we are told “true change comes from within”. How does that work? And if so, what do I know about this “Within”? What do I need to know about it? How can I use it?
For many of us as we age, the ‘Within’ reveals itself as pain, aches, stiffness, which are rather immobilizing messages. When we were younger, the “Within” was more mobilizing, propelling us onto the many paths we can now look back on. So perhaps the important question is how to get in touch with, stay in touch with, and work with the dynamic “Within” as we age? And perhaps, as well, regain the possibilities of where and how the “Within” might still lead us.
This presentation explores the intersection of science, health, psychology, movement, and art in the informative, but seldom-discussed, somatic inner space or the “Within”. Called interoception by science, somatics by alternative therapies, it remains invisible and unnamed in most other realms. And yet, attention to this inner space offers a guide to vitality and the life-affirming transformations of aging which hopefully include creativity, wisdom, empathy, humour, and acceptance of mortality.
